Dear Resident(s),
This communication is from a newly formed local action group, Mickleton Against Inappropriate Development, or MAID for short.
You may be aware that there are currently four housing applications for Mickleton, at various stages of submission and which, if approved, would result in an additional 470 dwellings being constructed. The village has already absorbed a 38 per cent population increase since 2013 and these new proposals would add a further 47 per cent.
(Summaries of the 4 proposals can be found on our website:
Cotswold District Council’s Local Development Plan policies, which direct additional housing to the most appropriate sites, can no longer be relied on as the Council’s annual housing requirement figure has recently been increased from 504 to 1036 dwellings. The upshot is that the Council’s LDP policies are now regarded as being out-of-date and there is a greater chance that new developments will be approved. All 4 of the proposed developments would have been rejected under the old LDP policies as being unsuitable.
Such speculative and developer-led planning activities have aroused serious concerns from residents about what this all means for the future of our village. The MAID action group was set up on the 7th August 2025 as a non-political, resident-led association dedicated to campaigning against inappropriate development that threatens to overwhelm village infrastructure, amenities, rural character and charm, and is disproportionate in relation to other developments in the district.
We urgently need to unite as a village against speculative and inappropriately located developments, or our cherished village will be replaced by incongruous widespread urbanising sprawl.
